Measurement and Installation
Drapes and Curtains
There are a few things to keep in mind in order to achieve the full, finished look with curtains.
Measurement
- The width at the middle of the finished curtain should be twice the width of the window being covered. So for example, if you are using our standard panels which are 50" in width each, you will need a pair of them to cover a 48-52" window opening. For a wider window, you should consider a wider curtain. This will allow for the full, draped fall to the fabric and give the professional and nicely finished look. Folks are often tempted to draw the curtain out to its full width but while that will provide the coverage, it will not give the beautifully finished look that is desired. If you window is wider than 48", we highly recommend that you utilize our custom creations option so that we can craft the drapery that will bring out the absolute best in your interior decor
- If you want the full window to show, be sure to include space for the pull back on both sides of the window in your overall width.
- When it comes to the height, there are few options. The 95" length allows for the curtain to just "kiss" the floor. The 108" option allows the curtain to create a "puddle" on the floor. The shorter option of 80" in situations where a shorter length is desired. As always, for measurements not covered by these options, don't hesitate to reach out for a custom order.
Installation
- For lightweight curtains and sheers, it is perfectly alright to use curtain rods and hardware widely available at stores like Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Target etc. However, for heavier drapery, we highly recommend heftier rods that can appropriately handle the weight of the lined drapery.
- Here is a site we have used before and have been happy with but feel free to use any store where you will be assured of the quality.
Roman Shades
Measurement
- For our Roman Shades, we have opted for installation rails with a thinner profile so that we can provide maximum flexibility in installation. The rails are an inch in depth and can be installed on the wall or a ceiling. This allows for ease of installation for both inside and outside mount.
- For inside mount, it is critical that the width of the opening be exactly measured so that the railing can be cut to fit. We have several sizing options available in our standard offering but here too, please don't hesitate to work with us to design a custom shade.
- Our standard sized offering is best used for outside mount unless you happen to have a window size that works exactly from the width perspective.
Installation
The rails we use are very straight forward to install.- Begin by securely installing the included brackets above the window. You can install either on the wall or the ceiling. Depending upon the width of the shade, you will want 2 or 3 brackets installed at 24" distance. You will want to ensure a secure installation since these brackets form the foundation of the overall install.
- Once the brackets are installed, gently snap in the rail. You will want to approach the rail at a slight angle in order to attach to the bracket. This mechanism allows for a lot of flexibility to move the rail horizontally as needed which we have found to be very helpful. Since the rail can slide horizontally once snapped in, you are able to select the precise location in reference to the window. For inside mount of course, the width of the rail will be exactly the width of the opening.
- Once the rail is installed, you will be able to secure the shade to the rail using the high-quality velcro stitched at the very top of the shade.
- Lastly, thread the strings through the circles attached at the back and line up both strings to ensure a straight installation.
